February 27, 2026

Latest News from DFN-Cloud: The DFN has successfully completed the Europe-wide re-tendering of framework agreements for cloud-based web and video conferencing services. As of March 1, 2026, participating institutions in the DFN-Cloud service will have access to the following attractive offerings: alfaview (alfaview GmbH), BigBlueButton (infra.run Services GmbH), edudip (edudip GmbH), fairmeeting (fairkom Gesellschaft), meedio (Meedio GmbH), Microsoft Teams (DrVis GmbH), Rainbow Alcatel (PKE mediacom GmbH), visavid (Auctores GmbH), Webex (DTBS GmbH), and Zoom X (Telekom Deutschland GmbH).

The graphic illustrates the theme of video conferencing: a large screen stands on a thick blue line, surrounded by three smaller screens. Each screen shows people against colorful backgrounds, some of whom appear to extend beyond the screen, waving or making the victory sign. Also visible are a smiley face, a speech bubble with a green telephone handset, and a chat bubble.Cloud-based video systems have seen many new features in recent years, including improvements in accessibility and the integration of third-party AI solutions. Together with recent legislative developments, this prompted the DFN-Cloud team to update the requirements for the new tender. This was done in collaboration with the VIKTAS working group (Video Conferencing Technologies and Their Application Scenarios) of the German Initiative for Network Information (DINI), as well as the Working Group on Media Concepts and Technologies of the Centers for Communication and Information Processing in Teaching and Research (ZKI).
